AUTUMN MAY ROMING is an East Idaho native, currently living in Texas with her husband and children. At 12 years old, she attended a choir concert, and fell in love. Fell in love with choral music. She was so moved by what she heard from that choir, she decided to study music in college. Autumn went on to study vocal performance/pedagogy and piano at Idaho State University, and focused on opera performance and choral conducting at the University of Montana. She has performed extensively as a soprano soloist and choral singer, has performed in many opera and musical theater productions, and is well-regarded for her stratospheric range and “hauntingly beautiful tone.” Recent roles include Ermengarde in "Hello, Dolly!," Monica in "The Medium," and Mary Magdalene in "Lamb of God."
Aside from performing, Autumn enjoys teaching music to children and adults. She has directed choirs of all levels over the past 10 years, has taught music theory classes, and maintains a private voice and piano studio. She founded and currently directs the Nightingale Children’s Chorus, which rehearses regularly in Greenville, TX.
Autumn began composing in high school, primarily writing for voice and choir, and thoroughly enjoyed composition assignments during her collegiate theory classes. Her first choral work to be publicly performed, a stunning SATB arrangement of "The Water is Wide," was premiered in 2019 by the University of Montana University Choir. Autumn writes regularly for local church groups and for Nightingale Children's Chorus. And in April 2024, Autumn conducted her premier of "Hosanna," a 45-minute musical cantata for SSAA choir, piano, and narrator.
In all of her compositions and arrangements, Autumn May Roming emphasizes text painting. Every harmony and every melodic theme is thoughtfully written to express the text and emotions of the song. She hopes that through her music, singers and audiences will be moved the same way she was at 12 years old. One concert, one song, that completely redirected her life.
